On Saturday, July 30, we are having two consecutive events:
Welcome to Hokie Nation Service Project @ 9 AM – we are inviting area high school students that are preparing to enter VT as freshmen and introducing them to the concept of Ut Prosim while engaging with us in two community service projects that morning. We are also inviting current VT students home on summer break to join the cause.
Football Preseason Tailgate Picnic @ Noon – after the service projects, we are having our traditional preseason tailgate picnic at Idlewild Road Park. We will be providing hot dogs/hamburgers free of charge and just ask attendees to bring their favorite tailgate appetizer, side or dessert.
Please note: all alumni, current/future students and family/friends are welcome to attend either or both events. Please see below for more details about each event AND TO RSVP!
Welcome to Hokie Nation Service Project
We will be working at two different projects as we introduce high school students, preparing to enter VT as freshmen, to the concept of Ut Prosim:
Keep Charlotte Beautiful – Adopt-A-Street
The Charlotte Chapter is a proud participant in Charlotte’s “Adopt-A-City Street” program run by Keep Charlotte Beautiful. Our adopted street is in Noda that runs from Parkwood at Hawthorne to Brevard at 22nd Street
Project: Participants will be helping with street clean-up. Wear comfortable shoes and bring gloves if you have them. We will provide trash pickers and trash bags.
Volunteer Location: Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Belmont Regional Center, located at 700 Parkwood Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank supplies a network of over 500 nonprofit agencies and churches with food and essential grocery products. These agencies are comprised of emergency pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, group homes for the handicapped, low income day care centers, and other similar programs serving low-income people. Volunteers will help sort food and other grocery products to ensure they are ready for distribution to area agencies.
Project: We will be sorting food at their warehouse.
Volunteer Location: 500-B Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC 28206
Please see sign-up below, after information about the picnic.
