We are the Charlotte Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association serving Virginia Tech alumni in 24 counties in North and South Carolina (see below for more information). With over 4,000 members, the Charlotte Chapter is home to the largest contingent of Hokies outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Chapter has been serving area alumni for several decades and is consistently recognized as an Outstanding Chapter by Virginia Tech.
The Chapter is organized as a nonprofit corporation with the State of North Carolina and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions to and/or sponsorships of the Chapter in the United States are tax-exempt to the extent provided by law.
Our objective is to promote the interests of Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, including:
- Provide scholarships to Charlotte area students entering the University.
- Support the activities of the University and work toward the realization of the University’s educational goals.
- Provide an important communications link between alumni and the University.
- Promote the image and reputation of the University within the community.
- Promote strong positive relationships among alumni, students, parents and others within the community.
- Provide the University with a strong core of alumni volunteers who serve as an important marketing arm of the University.
- Promote alumni pride and spirit for the University.
Since 1988, the Chapter has awarded scholarships to area high school students entering Virginia Tech as freshmen. The Chapter has also funded an endowment account with the Virginia Tech Foundation that will help fund future scholarships. For more information regarding our scholarship programs, please visit our Scholarships page.
We organize a variety of events every year, from football watching to community service, and hold fund-raisers to support our scholarship programs (e.g. our annual golf tournament and volunteer opportunities at area sporting events). Please contact one of our Officers for more information about how to help our Chapter and area students entering Virginia Tech.
Frequently Asked Questions
“Do I have to pay dues? How do I become a member?”
No, the Virginia Tech Alumni Association has never charged any dues. Once you are an alumnus of Virginia Tech, you are automatically a member FOR LIFE!
“The Alumni Association only wants money from me!”
No, we do not solicit money from alumni for the University. However, we do ask for alumni to help participate in fund raisers that support our scholarship programs. Otherwise, we strive to promote fellowship among area alumni and serve as ambassadors of the University.
“Aren’t you the Hokie Club?”
No, this is a common misconception among alumni. Please see our Hokie Club page for more information.
