Since 1988, the Virginia Tech Alumni Association – Charlotte Chapter has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to Charlotte area high school students entering Virginia Tech as freshmen (detailed below). Most of the scholarships awarded have come from the hard work of our dedicated volunteers at various fund raising events — we THANK YOU for your efforts.
In 2009, the Charlotte Chapter also established an endowed scholarship account with the Virginia Tech Foundation. Future scholarships will be paid from the interest earned in this account, which is currently funded with over $120,000 in corpus. This account was created using proceeds from our annual golf tournaments. This would not have been possible without the commitment of our golf tournament players, sponsors, and especially our organizing director, Gary Lark — again, THANK YOU.
If you would like to donate to the endowed scholarship account, please follow the instructions below. All donations are tax-exempt (to the extent provided by law) and are eligible for corporate matching from many area employers (please click here to check your employer’s eligibility). While the Chapter decides who will receive the scholarships, we do not receive or use any of the money donated to this account.
Please remember: YOUR DONATION DOESN’T NEED TO BE BIG TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. If each local alumnus gave only $25 and used corporate matching, we could raise over $200,000 a year and endow many more scholarships.
To make a donation by check, credit card or other means, please visit the Online Giving to Virginia Tech page. You may make your donation online or by mail using this form.
IMPORTANT: Under the “Select an area” drop down, please select the ‘Alumni Association’ option. A second “Select a fund” drop down will appear – please select the ‘Other’ option. A “Designation:” text box will then appear – please paste Charlotte Alumni Chapter Endowment (#860410) in the box to ensure that your donation goes to our endowment account.
If you have any questions about our scholarship program or the donation process, please contact Seth Pesek.
